“I might wake up and go running. I also might win the lottery. The odds are about the same.” -Garfield
“If I ever win the lottery, I’d stay the same person I am today. My poor decisions, however, will be gloriously EPIC!”
I have put so much thought into this question over the last decade. I figure, since I actually know what I’d do and have for a long time, I should make note of it. What better way to do this than to share with the world what my plan is if I were to become a winner one day?
First, I would keep my mouth shut. We all know what happens when one person becomes a millionaire overnight. You wind up with relatives, usually ones you never even knew you had, appearing out of nowhere. Honestly, though, most of my family doesn’t talk to me now…and I’d like to keep it that way.
Second, I have a few things that would need paid off. My house, my car, as well as a few other things. Then, I’d try to find out how to pay off anything my dad and my sister may owe. I’d take care of my debt and theirs. Even my Gramma’s if she has any, though I doubt she does. She probably wouldn’t allow me to, anyway…which is why I would have to be sneaky.
Third, I’d love to buy some land. Enough land to build a few houses and still have some privacy. Alternatively, if I could find a few nice neighborly houses for sale, I’d just buy them up. Why? I want to keep my family close. My sis, dad, and even my Gramma if she’s willing. We’d all be neighbors with nice big yards. Maybe rent out our old houses or sell them. Whichever.
Once all of that is accomplished, I’d love to take my family on vacation somewhere nice and fun. We’ve never had the opportunity to go on a vacation, ever. We all have and do work too much. And even if we do get to take a few vacation days, we still don’t have the money to go anywhere. That or our spouse isn’t able to get the same time off to do anything together as a family. It’s pretty ridiculous that we work so we can have money to do things but never have the time to actually DO them.
As for my job…well, I wouldn’t quit working. I’d get too bored just sitting at home while the kids were in school. I’d probably still work part-time. And I’m sure my hubby would prefer to still have his job. He’s always preferred to be outside of the house doing something. I know he’s been trying to start up his own garage business, so he’d probably have a place somewhere on our land to open his garage. As long as it’s a good distance from the house, I say ‘go for it!’
After all of this, I even have plans for the remainder. I would put some away for emergencies and the kids’ tuitions, in case they plan to go to college someday. I’ve always wanted to donate to St. Jude’s Children’s hospital because they do such amazing work. Also, I’d like to possibly invest in a business (though, I haven’t really thought much about that part).
Now, I know what you’re thinking…one couldn’t possibly follow through with all, or even most, of this plan! I assure you; my mind is pretty made up. The thing is, though, that my actually winning the lottery would most likely never happen. I seem to have the worst luck. I don’t even personally know anyone who’s won the jackpot.
A girl can dream, though, right?
Now, here’s a question for y’all! Do YOU have a plan for if you ever won the lottery?
