“I have discovered the secret to a clean home – never let your kids or husband enter it.”
Does it feel like you’re constantly cleaning? Picking up toys and doing dishes and laundry…it just never ends! Especially since it’s just me who does the cleaning. My kids just love to destroy my progress and my hubby just moves things from one spot to another. Like that helps, right? :/
The dishes completely pile up after a couple days because, even though I’d come up with the idea to put them in the dishwasher as they are used, that doesn’t seem to happen. As for the laundry, the clothes seem to find their way to the floor in front of the washer instead of inside the washer or clothes hamper. *facepalm*
Don’t even get me started on the kids’ rooms!! Ugh!
One thing I have noticed that my kids seem to like to actually help me, CONTESTS. Once in a while, I’m able to fool them into thinking they’re playing a game. “Let’s see who can pick up the toys faster!” “First one to put all these clothes into the washer wins!” “If you guys can beat mommy on picking up all the papers off the floor, you’ll get a cookie!”

It doesn’t always work, but I’m thankful for the times it does. I usually have to clean their rooms with very little help and many complaints in between. Sometimes, while I’m working on Abigail’s room, Oliver will clean up his own to help out…but then when I go in to check, I have to clean up under his bed and dresser before vacuuming. But every little bit of help is a blessing, right? 🙂
As I’m writing this, I’m dreading all the laundry I have to haul up to my room to fold tonight. I’ve been putting it off, but it’s become too much to deal with now. I’ll probably drag it all up to my room and then clean the kids’ rooms first. (I know, still procrastination in disguise. HAHA!!)
So, all you mamas reading this, how do you get your family to help out around the house more, or more efficiently? Please share your thoughts and effective strategies. 🙂
